For now I got the Cougar to get me around. I miss the space but it runs good so I'll have to be happy for now. When I get one it will already run and drive, Just don't have the space and money for a long drawn out project.
The 1980 Dodge B-series van that brought me here. It sat untouched in a garage since 1989! I sold it back to the very same guy who drove it 30 years ago for Mobile radio. Sometimes you just have to put a van where it belongs. Glad to see her getting the love it deserves. | | | Re: My little time capsule | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 371 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 371 | Well I figured I'd stop by and say hi to everybody, still no van but many updates to the Cougar, Instead of doing a mad JDM style Dajiban project I am doing a mad JDM drift style on my American Cougar as I plan for it to be a drift car when I save enough money to buy another vehicle, really been looking into a Dodge Magnum lately. (I know it's not a van but they are cool and with a charger front end it looks bad as hell) Anyway back to the Cougar... I always refuse to drive a plain white un modded car so I sticker-bombed my Cougar's hood between the body lines, roof, trunk, door trims, and gas door. I get lots of looks and it is the ONLY one in ANY parking lot that looks like this! I plan to get an aluminum "ricer" wing for the back when I get more money but for now it is a fun project. Did an oil and filter change, trans flush, repaired the power steering leak, put 2 tires on the front, rewired the stereo, and many other small fixes it needed. It is running great, and is proving to be a good investment.

On the one hand it hasn't seen road salt in 25 years and is pretty solid, low miles, and adds a bit of interesting to it, but on the other hand it hasn't been run or moved around. That means ALL the hoses are shot, tires are shot, every fluid needs changed, several gaskets and bushings, brakes all needed replaced, shocks, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints, universal joints, then bodywork and paint.
Also I didn't feel like fighting with BMV for the next year to get the title for it (BIG hassle in Indiana) and I saw that it could go to a good home for a good price allowing me to just go buy something that already ran and was road ready and this Cougar just happened to catch my eye for a ridiculously low price. So far it has been super reliable and I haven't had any big problems out of it.

Still thinking about vanning just don't have the van anymore. I have been looking at getting a Dodge Magnum with a Charger front end which is kinda like a station wagon so it has a little vanning vibe to it but so far the Cougar has been good to me.

Well just an update, I got an offer I couldn't refuse on the sticker bombed beat up Cougar. $800! Then I bought this Buick for $600 Then traded it even to my nephew for a Ford Ranger extended cab with a topper. (He needed a car for his baby) Not a van but a good step in the right direction and much better than the cougar. Also got an airbrush setup for Christmas and I thought what better place to learn about airbrushing than a van forum! I did a few quick skulls on my tailgate with a stencil just to get a feel for it. Also if you all want to tune into the continuing van build under the new owner here is a link to that! http://townwire.com/the_dodge_van.htm
