Hi all

Right after much searching and amasement at prices being charged!! i.e 4 x dust seals for the bargain price of £20 or $35 us dollars! I have managed to find the two rubber sealing boots below (shown fitted in picture) that completely encase the Heim joint, these were £7 for the two (just over $10) so a little better.

Thanks for the link reed but i looked at buying from your side and one place wanted to charge me $52 dollars shipping alone for just 4 x dust seals, since loosing the USPS boat service shipping charges are now horrendous.

So will now be able to fit and get this part finished at last and move onto the next area.

Thanks again for all your help and advice its moving slowly but at least we going in the right direction!
Regards
Mark

One step forward and ten back - the heim joint doesn't fit on the rear arm of the linkage its too wide- oh joy!

So think that idea is scrapped, prob have to make another thin rod with a slot in it.

Very cool find there 3pinplug! I've never seen that sort of boot before; thanks for posting the picture.

Is the boot the part that's too big, or is it the joint's ball or knuckle?

If the ball thickness is the issue you may be able to buy or make another longer throttle stud for your carburetor. This is the Holley stud and extension for Chrysler Applications:

Hi
No its the other end thats to short its the "C" shaped bracket the kickdown rod attaches to, the part protruding out is to short to go through the heim joint. I will post a link of where i got the covers from but they are metric ones not sure if they do imperial. I will revisit the C connectipn and see if i can make one or maybe make a small slot in the front part to allow the rod through.
Being a live project it was never going to be easy but the worst us behong me ....well hopefully!

Well we having a period of rain here so when it rains I work on the inside currently repaneling it, having removed the existing wooden cladding I have discovered the windows are leaking due to only being held in with wood???

Anyone come across this and how did you then pull the windows in / fix them so they are secure, don't like the idea of the wood but if I have to go with it I will.

Heres some pics of what I found, no wonder why there leaking and I can see daylight!

Hi Mark, Well here goes. All of the windows on the Beach Rx Camper Van were at one point pulled, and then re-bedded from the exterior, with a black flexible sealant. I'm not a roofer, but a Used Tilesetter, and to me it looks to be some type of Asphalt based roofing sealant. It's ugly as Hell, but it doesn't leak. I believe a cleaner job could have been done. The material does come in tubes that can be used in a caulking gun. My rubber window gaskets sealing the outside are shrunk a wee bit short. The sealant is visible from the inside, so it was applied liberally. I think I would fabricate a long "L" shaped flange for the 4 sides/top/bottom around all of your windows, and use them to secure the windows in place when you reseal them up. Angle iron comes to mind, but I would use aluminum. Ill try and dig up close up Pic. Kind Regards and Best of Luck on your Van! Wedgy/Bill Also

Hi Wedgy

Thanks for the info, i will have a look for the asphalt based sealant and see what i can get.

I like your idea of the angle iron and I could fix it through the inside of the frame and that should pull it all in. Will also run a liberal amount of sealant around the inside and outside.

Thanks

Mark
