Thanks all have just had a look and ATF+4 seems to go for £36 this was the cheapest i could find (approx $50) for 5 litres in the UK, so i guessing about £72 or approx $100 to fill the transmission, maybe more - ouch!
But got to be done! Going to be expensive if the lines do leak so will have to make sure I catch any if i do have a leak.
I have a bung in the side of the transmission housing my temp sender unit so this will double as a drain bung if required.
No i haven't got a pressure gauge installed, fitted a temp gauge. I will have a bit more of a search and see if i can find it any cheaper.
Thanks All
Mark

The same guy thatoriginally recommende ATF+4 to me is the one who now recomends Dexron VI and uses it in his Mopar vehicles. Dexron VI is far far different from Dexron 2 or 3. The last time I checked, there was about a dollar difference per quart between ATF+4 and Dexron VI at my local parts store. Maybe it was a sale.

If the price is the same, then ATF+4 is fine. Both ATF+4 and Dexron VI are superior to the transmisison fluids available back in the 60s-80s when the 904/727/A500/A518 transmission family was built and installed in vehicles.

Those look like Western brand "turbine" wheels. The red portion is actually painted aluminum. You may be able to find the manufacturer, model, and size of the rims on the backside if you look carefully. That is a good purchase!

Thanks Reed, I will give that a search they were on ebay over here in the UK and no one bid on them so got them for the opening price, it's a real shame there's only three but at that price its worth the gamble!

Lots of companies made that style. There were also known as "vector" rims.

That's interesting Reed. Like to know more as you get more info.
Fluids have absolutely improved, finding the ones that are compatible for the "antiques" we drive is hard. Nobody is doing any R&D on 904 and 727's anymore.
Please share what you find.

but have really pulled the windows into the side of the van and resealed them, god where they badly fitted, and am in the process of fitting the glittering cladding! looks great at night!

Due to the increased shipping costs from the US to the UK since they stopped the boat service parts are now out of reach of shipping, so have been searching for some time for a front spoiler then I picked up this off ebay for £10 (approx $15) its from a race car evidentaly and am currently widening it by 3 inches to make it fit but we are getting there and its a very nice fit!

Heres the join so far needs filling and a lot of sanding!

And finally I need to fill the new A518 transmission and fire the van up, the first firing will be to "check for leaks in the transmission lines" which I have fabricated from scratch, so I don't want to fill the transmission / cooler etc with expensive fluid first off, as i may have a leak, so what is the cheapest fluid i can do leakage testing with, i am not planning on driving the van just seeing if i have any leaks. If all okay i would drain it down and put the expensive stuff in.

Mark

I might not worry about it too much. It would need to leak a lot to cost you any money.
Fliud leaks always looks worse than they are. What looks like a liter is only a thimble lol!
