This is a subject that may have a lot of vanner's and van owners upset or maybe not!!!!
The price of vans are going up! You read that right( going up). The fewer there are the more they will be worth. That goes for any vintage vehicle. I see a lot of over priced vans out there all the time. I also see vans that are priced right. The problem that I keep seeing is comments about these buy it right prices. It is like everyone has become a van appraiser. ( $10k That's way to much I might give him $5k) WOW would you like to read that comment about your personal van that you have $15k in,and trying to get something back from your investment.
I see this a different way. I look at a van and price it just like any other vehicle. There are appraised values for vans I had to look hard to find documented van prices. Now I can give a price of what vans are worth.
This is how I appraise cars trucks and vans. they are rated, 1 to 6. 1 excellent, 2 fine, 3 very good, 4 good, 5 restorable, 6 parts.
I buy, sell, customize, and restore vans, also part out and sell van parts. I do it for the fun of vanning and to keep the sport alive.
From my point of view a driver vintage van is worth paying good money for. Prices will very on each and every vehicle, by how much work has already been done, or needs to be done.
Here are 5 reasons to pay good money for a driver van.

1 It is a driver! That's a good start!
2 There are not that many vintage rust free vans in good shape left!
3 Most if not everything is intact to be a driver. ( no looking for parts)
4 License as antique vehicle, a 1991 is 25 years old
5 It can be driven while you repair little things it may need.

The worst thing to do is let a vehicle set. In less it's in a controlled environment, and it is one of one ever made.
Here is an example of over priced.
If you are looking at van, lets say a 75 Chevy g10 that is complete has been siting for 20+ years in the same spot, does not run, flat tires, and paint baked off. They want $10k. First off it is not a number 1 excellent van, it is a number 5 condition at best and is only worth around $1,500 to $1,800 if it is complete and can be restored.

Another example is a priced right early dodge A-100 short wheel base. Lets say it is a completely restored top to bottom or a perfect original. A number 1 excellent, it books for $10,700. I seen a restored window van sell for more than that a few months ago. What that means the price on A-100 just took a price leap.
When a good example of a restored van sells higher than it books this is what you get.(prices going up). That is why you see prices on e-bay around $27-30k on nice early dodge A-100.
I don't complain I just watch the prices go up, it is about time nice vans are getting the prices they deserve. They are the next vehicle to build everything comes around again.
Who would have thought a number 1 excellent condition stock 61-66 Econoline 90" panel van would book at $13,500. Not me! For those that complain about prices, brace yourselves they are not going to get any cheaper!!!

These things are labors of love. They SHOULD command a lot more. Someone wanting one for nothing doesn't understand what it takes to make them into a sweet ride.

BOTTOM LINE:

A van is not worth anything till SOME 1 ELSE wants it.

Each van is worth more than what you paid for it and worth less than what you sold it for.

Anyone offering suggestive van pricing other than the seller is wrong on the price.

If you want it and you paid too much... HK
HK stands for who-cares...

Buy the best that you can...

Some vans can't even be given away...
blutopia is probably 1 that falls into this category.

No van should ever be taken-away...

Like most older cars that haven't yet fallen into the "valuable classic" category, vans are worth exactly what somebody is willing to pay for them. And like all things, when people are in the market to buy, everything costs too much, and when they are selling, everyone is trying to lowball them..

Can't win either way. If you want a certain van bad enough, be willing to ante up the cash, otherwise don't bitch because you are cheap.

In general, van prices seem up quite a bit. Economy is better and all collectible cars are demanding higher prices. I did however, just give away a shorty dodge. I needed space and had it sold for $500 but freeze plugs all fell out on startup and I was tired of dealing with it

4x4 vans have taken off lately. A 77 lwb gmc 4wd was mentioned on this site about 2 years ago. Really clean on craigs for 5k. It sold and a month later I bid on it on eBay. Sold 6500.

18 months later on craigs again for 8500 sells to dealer who puts it on his website for 13000. It ended up on bringatrailer.com and sold for 15000.

The cool thing is that there are still deals to be had on vans. Matt
