Well the 1988 version of the Council of Councils is history. And yes, history it was. 24 Van Councils and over 400 people attended this years 10th Ann. event. The event held at the Detroit Metro Airport Holiday Inn was a huge success. My thanks go out, to all of you who made it possible, all of you dedicated Vanners who braved the cold (and Detroit!) to show you care. Thanks to all the members of the West Lake Erie Van Council to who it was a pleasure working with and to the entire Holiday Inn staff. Thanks to all of you.

Next years meetings will be held in Orlando Florida and hosted by the Florida Van Council. Start saving your pennies now!!!! I'll see you there.

  2. Coverage of truck-in.
  3. Item included in the nationals bible.
  4. Financial help from other clubs and also support from other clubs.
  5. Council directory FLORIDA does have one already if you have a change of address please get it to them.
  6. Trailers it should depend on the campground a trailer that is over 16' can be charged extra.
  7. National title on events names. try to discourage clubs from using national's after their event name the colors for the national can not be used on any other dash plague
  8. Clubs that are mixed with 4 x 4's pick ups etc. when putting on an event should state that on their flyers that they will be allowing these people in. also the people that do go to the event should not be so hostile towards the host clubs. Each individual has the choice to go or not too go to the event.

NATIONAL TRUCKIN WILL STAY IN THE U.S. BUT A CANADIAN CLUB CAN HOST THE TRUCK-IN ALONG WITH AN AMERICAN CLUBS.

AFTERNOON MEETING

Meeting was called to order by Joe Madonia. Minutes from the morning (officers) meeting were read along with the minutes from the morning meeting.

Approximately 2 4 councils present. Council of Councils meeting was announced it is to be held in Orlando, Florida next year and will be hosted by The Florida Van Council.

Explanation of why the morning meeting was kept small was given and a thanks of appreciation was given for the council’s cooperation in keeping the morning meeting small.

The floor was then open for discussion:

Topics of Discussion:

  1. At what age does a club let children in free at an event?
  2. It was decided that individual clubs would have to use their own discretion.

  3. Give aways and stuff to put in the goodie bags. If you host an event and have anything left over it would be appreciated by other clubs with an event upcoming if your club could donate some of your extras.

3. Your event bible.

Be careful what you sign your name to in an event bible. Your name could be used to point a finger at should something happen at your event which would lead to a lawsuit of any sort.

  1. Insurance companies.
  2. Check with different brokers shop around. Also check with your park or campground they may already have an insurance policy in which you can purchase a rider.

  3. Advertisement & Publicity.

Check with your local cable TV station some have free advertisement for non-profit organizations. Guest editorials will be accepted from Jeff Johnston

6. Trailers:

Clubs should decide how much if any they want to charge for trailers.

7. Flyers:

Flyers should be as clear as possible. The maps should be drawn out not copied from atlas's if possible. Your directions should be very clear, if you are going to let in mini-truck and pick-ups then state that on your flyers this way a person will be able to decide if he/she wants to go.

8. Walk-ins:

It was decided that clubs should police the event in order not to have this problem with walk-ins.

There is a lot of money and time that goes into some of the vans why should it be ruined by just one person who doesn't belong.

Next years Nationals will be held in Buena Vista, Colorado- July 6-9, 1989.
